Ron Paul is speaking his mind about Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) attempt to take up his son’s libertarian-ish banner after Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-Ky.) decision to leave the 2016 presidential race. And the elder Paul doesn’t appear very impressed by the senator from Texas.
The former congressman has a particularly dim view of how Cruz would handle corporate cronyism if elected president.
“People are liking Cruz. They think he’s for the free market, and he’s owned by Goldman Sachs. I mean, he and Hillary have more in common than we would have with either Cruz or Trump or any of them so I just don’t think there is much picking,” Paul told Fox Business.

The topic came up amid reports that the Cruz campaign is making a play for Paul supporters after the Kentucky lawmaker left the race.
Paul went on to suggest that Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who’s vying for the Democratic nomination, likely has more libertarian views than any of the remaining candidates.
“On occasion, Bernie comes up with libertarian views when he talks about taking away the cronyism on Wall Street, so in essence he’s right, and occasionally he voted against war,” Paul said.
Sanders recently reiterated unyielding support for legislation to audit the Federal Reserve, versions of which have been introduced by both Pauls.
But as far as the retired congressman and longtime liberty advocate is concerned, voters hoping for a viable libertarian option are again facing dreary electoral choices in the months ahead.
“It’s hard to find anybody — since Rand is out of it — anybody that would take a libertarian position, hardcore libertarian position on privacy, on the war issue and on economic policy,” said Paul.
“So I always say: You can search for a long time, but you’re not [going to] find anybody in the Republican or Democratic primary that even comes close to ever being able to claim themselves a libertarian.”
