When did the Democrat Party transform from a well-oiled political machine into the world’s worst infomercial? In light of their recent efforts to compound failure with foolishness, I’m no longer certain I’d be surprised if, while enunciating his latest crime, President Barack Obama turned his jug-eared smirk to the teleprompter and announced “But wait – there’s more!”
Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died Saturday; touching off what may have been the most appalling public celebration of tragedy that didn’t involve Muslims shrieking “ALOHA SNACKBAR” at the Behead-an-Infidel-A-Thon. Within hours of the news breaking nationwide, Democrat media accomplices lit up the afternoon with liberal tidings of cheer. Rolling Stone’s David Ehrlich crowed “so if the news about Scalia is true, how long do we have to wait until we can openly not be sad about it?” Abortionista Amanda Marcotte of the hate blog Salon couched her joy in anti-life language: “I guess it’s settled: God approves of abortion.” While Marcotte badly misread the Almighty’s mind, Sylvia Killingsworth of the once-proud New Yorker misread His plans for the fallen Scalia “Wish I could be a fly on the wall for Scalia’s chat with the Devil.”
In addition to their spontaneous outpouring of liberal joy over Scalia’s demise, the Democrats also decided to disgorge some of the bile they apparently keep in reserve for Justice Clarence Thomas. University of Louisville “professor” Ricky Jones reminded us why higher education needs a serious refit. “Scalia dead at 79. Clarence Thomas will have to think for himself now.”
Once they shook off the cobwebs of their racist hatefest, our port side pals decided to reverse more than five decades of obstructionism by demanding that Republicans accede to Obama’s immediate appointment of a replacement for the revered Scalia before the Supreme Court could drape Scalia’s chair with black crepe. Their demands put them at odds with — themselves.
In 1987, they dug their heels in like their proverbial mascot to keep Judge Robert Bork off the high court. 1991 brought their infamous “high tech lynching” of Justice Clarence Thomas; possibly the greatest shame of the Upper Chamber since those same Senate Democrats fought tooth and nail to keep Jim Crow on life support. And 2006 delivered the pitched battle against the appointment of Justice Samuel Alito; an appointment filibustered by the Democrats, including a then-junior Senator from Illinois named Barack Obama.
When former Justice John Paul Stevens began fading in 2007, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) claimed that Democrats should block then President George W. Bush’s Federal judgeship and Supreme Court nominees “except in extraordinary circumstances.” Schumer literally crowed about his intransigence: “We should reverse the presumption of confirmation…The Supreme Court is dangerously out of balance. We cannot afford to see Justice Stevens replaced by another Roberts, or Justice Ginsburg by another Alito.” At the time, Stevens was still serving on the Court, meaning Schumer was being pre-emptively obstructionist.
Within hours of Scalia’s demise, the leftist mouthpiece New York Times published an editorial castigating Republicans for any attempts to derail Obama’s SCOTUS plans, calling a blockade of Obama’s attempt to replace Scalia “disturbingly likely” due to the fact that “Senate Republicans” are “blindly ideological.” Among those who disagree with the “old gray lady” — the “old gray lady.” According to an editorial they published at the height of the Democrats’ proverbial assassination of Bork “the Democrats won the 1986 election, regaining control of the Senate, and they have every right to resist…”
Obama, who cleared time this week for a sit-down with members of the violent racist group “Black Lives Matter,” including Al Sharpton, couldn’t make it to Scalia’s funeral. The President of the United States will break bread with people who loot and pillage and even kill like mediaeval Mongol hordes; but couldn’t be bothered to attend a State funeral for one of the most respected jurists of the modern age.
To suggest that the Democrats have disgraced themselves is an understatement of almost Michael Moore-ian proportions. Not only could they not be bothered to at least feign respect for a man who earned the respect of even his ideological opposites like Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, they couldn’t be bothered to hide their glee. They’re craven partisan hacks, to be sure; but wait — there’s more! They’re also zealous campaigners against life, liberty and the pursuit of basic decency.
