Sessions ought to head back down to Dixie

Attorney General Jeff Sessions got blasted by President Donald Trump for recusing himself from the continuing Russia investigation in a New York Times piece published Wednesday. Sessions brushed off the criticism, saying he’ll stay at the Justice Department “as long as it is appropriate.” But forget Russia and loyalty to Trump. For the good of American freedom, Sessions’ immediate resignation would be extremely appropriate.

Senate’s ‘new’ healthcare reform bill looks a lot like Obamacare… and it’s about to get worse

As expected, the healthcare reform legislation unveiled by GOP senators Thursday falls far short of the promised repeal Republican lawmakers have used as a campaign crutch since the early days of the previous administration. The “new” bill would keep in place a massive bailout fund for insurance providers and Obamacare’s taxes, while still managing to increase the estimated cost of health coverage moving ahead.

Democrats re-invent with a dumb new slogan

Democratic leaders are evidently figuring out that criticizing President Donald Trump’s tweets and fantasizing about Russian secret agents camped out in the Lincoln Bedroom aren’t helping them regain power in Washington. But having already exhausted efforts to win elections with the help of the bathroom-choice bloc, the party must now attempt to focus on actual political issues. They say they’ll offer voters a “Better Deal” on things like infrastructure and the economy.

Syria is about to explode

The Pentagon announced that Syria has chemical weapons ready to deploy against opponents of the Bashar al-Assad regime. President Donald Trump says the Syrian government will “pay a heavy price” if it launches a chemical attack. Russia denies any such weapons exist in the region, labeling the U.S. statements as “provocation.” If you didn’t notice by the bombing and downing of planes, the U.S. is already at war with Syria– but the stage is being for a much bigger international conflict.

Public outrage is our only hope

The U.S.’s downing of a Syrian military aircraft last week certainly wasn’t the first sign that the Pentagon is pushing the country into a war with Syria, but it does mark the moment our trot toward all-out war turned to a full-on sprint. And despite very serious international implications of escalated involvement in Syria, Congress and the Americans they represent haven’t heard the first word on whether it’s a bad— or good –  idea.

No excuses: Audit the Fed should shine under GOP control

Despite shrieking opposition from Federal Reserve insiders and a handful; of Democrat lawmakers, a House panel passed a measure to get the ball rolling on Audit the Fed legislation earlier this year. House Republicans have further signaled their intention to provide transparency at the Federal Reserve by including an audit provision in the massive Financial Choice Act under consideration this week.
