The Greater Depression

June 27, 2011   |

What can we call what is happening today? We called the Great Depression that because it was the worst depression that this country had ever seen – extended and worsened by government policy. World War I was originally called “The War To End All Wars”, because is was the worst war the world had ever seen. Of course, then came the Second World War, and we stopped deluding ourselves that it could ever be the LAST world war. So for the Great Depression, as long as governments continue to meddle with economies and private interests, so too will Depressions continue. So I guess we should call this Great Depression II, unless of course we can somehow finally end or minimize government involvement in the economy – maybe only then we could call this The Depression To End All Depressions, If only.
