Why Gay Marriage Does Not Matter Right Now
June 27, 2011 |
Well, it DOES matter to those members of the gay community who want to get married. But for the rest of us, for the rest of America, its doesn’t really matter. We have much, much bigger fish to fry on the economic and security front than keeping two people – whatever the gender – from expressing their love for each other in that way. Just as much as Charlie Sheen and Anthony Weiner, this has been a distraction to the core issues which will, left no t dealt with, truly kill this country and the dream upon which it was founded. So my advice to those of you on the right side who start down the path of connecting social issues such as this one to fiscal issues: we’ve got more pressing problems than that. Gay marriage did not and will not cost us over 100% of our GDP, or drive us into tens of trillions of dollars of debt. There are other things which do that, and we need to deal with those first. You can have your beliefs, sure, but don’t let them get in the way of the bigger picture, otherwise we’ll continue being busy rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic instead of turning the wheel.
