Throw Them All Out, Indeed.

You know, sometimes, doing this blog, being involved in politics, gets very, very depressing. When I first read about this book and the story around it, I started feeling very sick to my stomach. Of course, I thought to myself, it stands to reason that the reason that politicians go to Washington fairly normal then leave multi-millionaires is that they are somehow ripping us off. For the longest time, I figured that this was mostly due to some fancy footwork with our taxes, or kickbacks from giving companies work via massive stimulus packages where there is no accountability. Still I had the sense that something like what is chronicled in this book was going on – just hadn’t realized the extent of the corruption, on both sides of the aisle. Now this book chronicles it in great detail: BTW, looks like there are way more Democrats than Republicans who took part, but its doesn’t matter, in my view, they are all tarred with the brush, any of those who made money off the information that they were privy to.
It’s enough to make you want to give up completely. And to think that this is apparently completely legal, for these scumbags, but completely illegal for the rest of us. I can just imagine all of those convicted and in jail from insider trading reading how these slime just get away with all of this, scott-free.
It’s just like me getting pissed off about all of these illegal immigrants who are given free reign and eventually citizenship, when I personally had to go through a ton of money, time and suffering to emigrate to this country legally, while the lawbreakers just got given citizenship, for doing the wrong thing.
It’s almost enough to make you think that the ship that is America has already sailed, there is no point in trying to fix or change the system for ourselves or for our kids, that its irreperable, and that we should just join the lawbreakers and slimeballs and at least make a few bucks out of it. You can bet that the families of these asses are set for life now. They made real sure that THEY were safe for the vagaries of the destruction that they are sowing.
Absolutely disgusting. I need some Tums.
One of the biggest scandals in American politics is waiting to explode: the full story of the inside game in Washington shows how the permanent political class enriches itself at the expense of the rest of us. Insider trading is illegal on Wall Street, yet it is routine among members of Congress. Normal individuals cannot get in on IPOs at the asking price, but politicians do so routinely. The Obama administration has been able to funnel hundreds of millions of dollars to its supporters, ensuring yet more campaign donations. An entire class of investors now makes all of its profits based on influence and access in Washington. Peter Schweizer has doggedly researched through mountains of financial records, tracking complicated deals and stock trades back to the timing of briefings, votes on bills, and every other point of leverage for politicians in Washington. The result is a manifesto for revolution: the Permanent Political Class must go.
