The Real Two Party System
December 23, 2011 |
Fox News recently reported that according to a USA Today poll, more and more voters are registering as independents, while the Republican and Democrat parties are on the decline. According to the article, Democrats lost around 1.7 million voters, while the GOP saw a drop of about 800,000 since 2008. And while some of those Democrats may have jumped ship to join the GOP, the total of about 2.5 million voters switching to independent is significant.
Both parties have betrayed their core values and embraced cronyism over civil and economic liberty. Whether that is the fault of the party or the politician doesn’t really matter any more. Americans are slowly but surely coming to the realization that mindless party fundamentalism is getting our country nowhere. Because of that realization, America is finally moving toward a real two party system: Republicrats and Independents.
I don’t think America is poised for a great, post-BushObama revolution. I think the movement towards libertarian ideas is slow moving, but it is moving. It may take some time, but I think we are beginning to see a major turn around in the way the American people view their politicians and political parties. Will we ever see an Independent or third party president? I think so. However, I don’t think the disgust with the establishment is quite there yet.
It’s only a matter of time.
